A city in itself
Springing up on Oosterdokseiland, in the heart
of Amsterdam, in its historical centre adjacent
to Central Station, is ODE, a joint venture
project between Bouwfonds MAB and Meyer
Bergman. The scale of the plan is unprecedented
by Dutch and even European standards and
comprises six surface lots. From mid-2007,
these will be occupied by houses in the most
diverse styles, a hotel and congress centre,
shops and catering establishments, offices,
cultural attractions, an Asian trade centre, a
library and a college of music. Below ground,
there will be plenty of parking space for cars
as well as bicycles. ODE will practically be a
city in itself, with all the bustle and multitude
of functions typical of a world city such as
Amsterdam. The project is a good example of
modern inner-city redevelopment at a time
when space is scarce and users are increasingly
demanding as many functions as possible be
included in that space.
development and restructuring. In 2006, Rabo
Bouwfonds sold 14,073 houses. The number of
houses sold by Rabo Vastgoed was 2,691 (1,767).
