Global launch of the International
Year of Cooperatives

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
The official launch of the International Year of
Cooperatives is held on 31 October 2011 at the
UN Headquarters in New York, during the plenary
meeting of the 66th UN General Assembly. The
United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon,
and the President of the General Assembly,
Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, will officially launch the
International Year of Cooperatives in the afternoon,
during the General Assembly Plenary Session.
The official launch is preceded by a press conference
and an informal, interactive round table discussion
among Member States, observers, organisations
of the United Nations system, cooperatives and
non-governmental organisations in consultative
status with the Economie and Social Council from
different regions around the world. The round table
discussion, in which Piet Moerland is participating,
covers the theme of the International Year of
Cooperatives: 'Cooperative Enterprises Build
a Better World: Contributions of Cooperatives
to Development'.
The main goal of the International Year of
Cooperatives is to raise the public awareness on
cooperatives worldwide. Therefore, during the
year, a number of activities are organised that
highlights and emphasize this. In a number of
activities, Rabobank is involved.
