John Ryan:
The Vion deal
The power of working in collaboration

30 ISSUE 26 JANUARY 2t
John Ryan
Once you have entered the
system you will be presented
with a main screen, where
you can view an introduction
video, submit your own deals
or go to the overview of all the
deals stored in the database.
Several filters enable you to
select deals that are relevant
to you, based on the cliënt
name, the cliënt type in the
food chain, the market sector,
type of transaction, the de-
partment involved or the year
the deal was closed. Next to
each deal you'll see a number
of icons - called 'deallinks'
- indicating which communi
cation tools are available for
each specific deal. The colour
of the deallink - either orange
or blue - indicates whether
the communication means is
for internal or external use.
As an illustration of how much
information can be found on
a specific deal, take the deal
that Rl did with meat supplier
VION. The company, Europe's
largest meat processor, has
grown in size rapidly since
2002, following a number of
acquisitions in the Nether-
lands, Germany and the UK.
If you click on this deal, you'll
find no fewer than nine high-
lighted deallinks that help you
to build up a more complete
and accurate picture about
the deal and the cliënt when,
for instance, preparing for a
pitch. The deal is an excellent
example of RI's ability to work
together for the benefit of
an important cliënt, while
also benefiting the bank and
reinforcing a relationship that
extends back to the 1960s.
Jan van Nieuwenhuizen says:
"With the VION deal entered
in the Deal Communication
database, staff have direct
access to the deal brochure
and the deal's standardised
Tombstone, and they are also
able to view a cliënt video. If
they require additional infor
mation on VION's background,
or the company's relationship
with Rabobank, that's also
available. This cross-sharing of
information is the way forward
if we want to ensure even
more deal successes."
now is that these registrations are done in one place,
thus allowing all employees to benefit from each other's
work and knowledge. It is a great advantage that no one
has to put in extra administrative work.
The Act Together platform, meanwhile, is more linked to
the engagement process, as John Ryan explains. "Act
Together is focused on issues such as: 'How can we make
sure that we deliver the know-how effectively and how
do we engage?'. We need to have a clear overview of the
solutions we can offer clients, about issues concerning
product governance, and about how we can deliver
that effectively internally. Additionally, the site is slightly
more specialised than Global Deal Communication. In
other words, it only lists deals or projects that stand out
because of collaboration between various regions, teams
and departments, enabling Rl staff to search on deals that
weren't made within the silos, but between them. Another
important element is that each case also lists everyone who
was involved, including name, e-mail address and phone
number."
