The Annual Financial Markets
Outlook Asia tour kicked off in
Hong Kong on 8 September
2008. It moved onto Shanghai
on 9 September, Taiwan on
12 September and ended in
Singapore on 17 September.
Jan Lambregts, Head of Global
Financial Markets Research, Asia,
gave a lunch seminar on the
outlook of Financial Markets in
2009. The event is an annual key
cliënt event in Asia and provides
an opportunity to share Rabobank's
views on the financial markets,
while also providing an
opportunity to catch up with
clients.
Jan Lambregts commented on
the housing market, inflation,
bond and equity markets,
central banksfcommodities
and currencies. "Asia overall
has an imperfect shelter. It is
increasingly integrated in the
global trade system and thus
more dependent on trade than
ever," according to Jan Lambregts.
"Asia is resilientfrom increased
intraregional dynamics, but the
underlying final demand is still
mostly US/Euro-zone centralised,"
he said. Lambregts believes the
economie slowdown will hit
Hong Kong, with GDP forecast at
4.5% in 2008 and 4.3% in 2009.
The event also received attention
from the media in Singapore
and Hong Kong.
Last August, Rabobank Chile partnered with Wines of
Chile, a Chilean wine industry organisation, to invite
over 30 of the most important Chilean wineries to a
social evening that showcased Rabobank's unique
expertise in the wine industry and its position as a
leading lenderto Food and Agribusiness. The keynote
speaker at the event, held at La Sala Art Gallery in
Santiago, was Arend Heijbroek, an associate director
The World Wine Map, 2008.
and wine and spirits expert with Rabobank's Food
and Agribusiness Research group. Heijbroek delivered
a presentation on the market position of the Chilean
wine industry in relation to the rest of the world.
Heijbroek's presentation covered topics such as the
current supply and demand for wine, and emphasised
the importance of trade in an industry that has
significant global exposure. He also reviewed the
competitiveness and structure of the Chilean market,
and provided an accurate SWOT analysis for the
Chilean wine industry, which took into account
Chile's geographic location, state resources, industry
knowledge, and competition domestically and
internationally.
The event gave wine
company owners and
presidents the opportunity
to share valuable insights
and discuss how best to
position their businesses
- and the Chilean wine
industry as a whole - in the
global wine sector. It also
gave Rabobank Chile the
chance to showcase the
bank as an expert in F&A
and wine. More than
simply a social event, the
evening was an excellent
opportunity to position
Rabobank as a partner to
our clients and highlight
ourcontinued
commitment to the
Chilean wine industry.
