Rabobank's Canada office has signed
on as a sponsor of the Saskatchewan
Science Centre, a museum dedicated
to promoting scientific curiosity and
innovation in Canada's Saskatchewan
communities. The Centre is adding a new
section, the Agricultural Exhibit Gallery,
with long-time Rabobank cliënt James
Richardson International (JRI) as the title
sponsor. Rabobank will be a significant
sponsor of the new Agricultural Exhibit
Gallery, as well as the exclusive sponsor
of the 'Agriculture and the World' display
in the gallery.
When it opens in early 2009, the gallery
will feature entertaining and educational
exhibits that work on many levels to
create a fun, fast-paced and technological
environment local residents and visitors
can enjoy. The gallery will celebrate and
highlight the significance of science,
technology and innovation in modern
day agriculture both in Canada and around
the world.
Rabobank's prominent sponsorship will
be a vehicle for further brand building in
this key agricultural region of Canada, and
will further strengthen the relationship
Rabobank has with cliënt JRI. A year ago,
Rabobank and JRI formed a joint venture
to provide erop input financing to JRI's
farming customers in western Canada.
The Rabobank-JRI project has been a
tremendous success and is now entering
its second year.
In keeping with Rabobank's
commitment to Corporate Social
Responsibility, the Mexico City office
recently participated in a programme
called V/omen Moving the World', which
is led by the Mexico chapter of Habitat
for Humanity.
The Rabobank team undertook to help
build homes for severely dispossessed
single mothers living in poor rural
areas. The statistics are alarming: Of the
880,000 single mothers in Mexico, 3 out
of 10 live in extreme poverty, while 57%
ofMexican homes headed by single
mothers earn less than the minimum
monthly wage.
Over the course of two weekends last
autumn, Rabobank employees worked
side-by-side with family members,
single mothers and other community
members to build two houses.
Construction experts supervised
the volunteers and taught them the
necessary skills - from carting gravel
to working with bricks and mortar.
In addition to constructing the houses,
one of the main goals of the project
was to help the women feel supported,
respected and strong enough to act as
agents of change in their communities.
Rabobank Mexico is very proud to be
able to help these families with new
houses and, most importantly, to give
these families hope for a brighter future
and better quality of life.
Working on a Saturday morning, Rabobank
employees, families and friends, together
with employees from AIG, planted 45
trees in East Harlem, one of the city's
less privileged areas. The trees planted
represented 10%ofthosethat Rabobank
International donated when it launched
its CSR programme in June 2008.
On 8 November 2008, Rabobank
partnered with MillionTreesNYC and the
New York Restoration Project to plant
trees in the Harlem section of New York City.
The project was part of Rabobank's local
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pro
gramme, which carries the motto
'Sustaining our Communities'.
