Keeping perspective It's easy to get absorbed in the details of day-to-day business life. Sometimes it pays to take time out to scan the bigger picture. Chairman Rik van Slingelandt shares with The Word how Rabobank International (Rl) is perceived within the Group. When the first RI office opened in Cura^ao in 1978, it was intended to support Dutch clients' international activities. Today, RI's activities are more numerous and include supporting funding for the Group, serving as a hatchery for people and products, providing sales channels for other Rabobank entities, and cultivating and sharing Food and Agribusiness (F&A) expertise, while contributing appreciably to net profit. 'Clearly we are not operating in an isolated world,' says Van Slingelandt, 'so it's important to examine the Group's expectations for Rl, pin- pointing where we are successful and where we can improve.' 4 1 Rl The Word I
