The survey carried out last year indicated a need for simple,
reliable, up-to-date and easily accessible communication
tools. 'That much was clear,' says Tom Peijster, who joined
Rabobank International in May to head tip the Communica
tions department. 'The issue was working out the best way to
get the information to them.' The survey showed you want
more timely delivery of information and fast access to re
sources. You also believe that some information is perfect for
electronic distribution. Other types are more suited to a
printed format. 'A lot of people were involved in the discus

The Word, and an ongoing focus on improving our existing
global intranet site, meeting point.'
Both tools are designed to complement and supplement each
other. Explains Peijster, 'The Word provides indepth discussion
of issues, especially strategie thinking and moves, and shows
people the bigger picture. Meetingpoint provides interactive
daily news and information.' As people requested, The Word

even on the train home. Meeting point gives our people
around the world a means to connect to the global R1 net-
work, to be informed of news as it happens, access up-to-the
minute data, seareh for more information about things that
are of interest. According to Peijster, 'It's a platform for you
to use and delivers news as it happens.'
Since its launch in March 2001, meeting point has developed
into a comprehensive intranet site. 'It is becoming more and
more the place to learn what's happening in RI and to a
broader extent, what's happening in the group as a whole,'
says Anna Morris, RI Communications. 'We've created an
area where people can browse the four portals [see side bars]
and can link to each other and relevant internet and intranet
sites. Already meeting point houses around 60 intranet sites
for the Rabobank Group. And we're still building.' Designed
to be a convenient departure point for an information search,
meeting point is providing fast access to information in a
simple fashion. 'Logging on to meeting point channels you
smoothly within minutes through a potential maze of infor-
