Rabobank Date June 22, 2000 subject Emerging Markets Charitv Fund To Rabobank International Dear Rabo friend, We like to let you know about a special project, which the former Agri-Project Finance Team in RI (APFT) is setting up in view of our farewell as an organizational unit. We plan to establish a special fund, the proceeds of which will be used to support various charity-linked initiatives, particularly supporting charitable projects in emerging markets, APFT's professional mainstay in the 1990s. By now most APFT team members have been relocated to other RI units or have left Rabobank; the F&A project finance portfolio originated by APFT is increasingly in a good and quite profitable shape because of the improving emerging market economie conditions and successful work-out restructuring operations; the "InSight" knowledge management program is on track, being integrated with the Customer Relationship Management Program and will be jointly rolled out in the final part of 2000; the organization of the F&A Strategy Implementation workshops to be held in June and September, respectively, is largely completed; the relationship with multilateral development finance organizations has improved substantially with recently significant scope to conduct business in the treasury and capital markets areas. We can conclude APFT will "ride into the sunset" with most of its main professional objectives realized and that hence this is a good moment to turn the corner and to pursue new professional objectives. While departing APFT would like one more time, - our "last waltz" - to focus on emerging market projects; but now in a very different way, with a focus on projects with a specific social conscience. This as most former-APFTers have in the course of their work been conffonted with social and educational circumstances that were feit as oppressive while nothing could be directly done about it to improve those circumstances. Potential beneficiaries of proceeds from the fund would include street children; people hit by natural disasters, war victims, and education programs in emerging markets and women in developing countries. Where possible, former-APFTers are prepared to put in their own time in contributing their energy and skills to the projects, which the fund will seek to contribute to. Actually, the objective is to focus support on charitable projects into which both former-APFTers and other RI colleagues have invested their personal time and energy. We would like to turn it into an Rl-wide exercise.
