new faces new publication Parenting project Seminar Thai-up 2 What'sNewS Issue 4' April 1999 in brief Intensive promotion of Rabobank's involvement with Foster Parents Plan has picked Foster parent plan at work up pace following conclusions of a survey stating that few were aware of our positive association with one of the largest child-focused development organizations. A recent show featured on prime-time Dutch television publicized the fact nationwide that socially responsible Rabobank has been main sponsor to Foster Parents Plan since 1995 and otherwise involved for the past 20 years. The national women's hockey team, sponsored by Rabobank International, not only made up the televised telephone panel for callers to donate money, they also pledged to financially adopt their own child. The high media exposure demonstrates Rabobank's active involve ment, and proves that the partnership is not as simple as merely giving money. Last month during the course of 'VIV Asia' (the regional version of the exhibition for intensive animal production, held in Bangkok), our Thailand representative office organized a specialized agribusiness conference. The event was co-hosted by Elsevier, publisher of 'World Poultry', and concentrated on the latest trends and developments in the Thai agricultural industry, attracting over 150 international clients and industry-related personnel. Demonstrating Rabobank expertise was an impressive line-up of sector specialists, including presentations by RIAS managing director Gerard van Empel, who highlighted the change in emerging markets from being supply to demand driven. The same concept was also reinforced by our own poultry and hog expert Gordan Butland, who reiterated that future consunter preferences will continue to be driven by safety and quality. Other external sector specialists adding brawn to the seminar included the managing director of Cargill Malaysia, who provided an insight into the region's feedmilling industry. Also present was the president of Makro Asia who spoke on Asian trends in consunter behaviour, sighting the recent retailing trends which shy away from traditional formats in favour of modern shopping outlets and supermarkets. According to chief representative of Taking a leading role in our rural portfolio downunder is new face to Australia and New Zealand, Bruce Dick (above). Bruce joins us with extensive industry knowledge and senior banking experience following almost two decades of working his way up with the National Bank of New Zealand towards his last top- ranking post as executive director. In focusing almost entirely on the agri sector - incidently an industry I am passionate about - Rabobank makes no pretence of trying to be all things to all people.'We also exhibit values he believes in: 'the importance of people, of working together and of focusing on knowledge and expertise.' Although still working from Wellington, Bruce intends to soon be based in Sydney.
