The Rabobank organization welcomes Hans Smits as new executive
board member and deputy chairman of Rabobank Nederland as of
May 1. No stranger to being high-profile, Smits steps into Rabobank
directly from his previous six-year
position as director of Holland's
international airport, Schiphol. While
finishing offat Schiphol, Smits has
enthusiastically absorbed himselfin
the dynamic world offinance. Being
a people's man, the cooperative
Rabobank principles mesh with his
all-important social ethics and
provide 'a world in which I flourish.'
Fully eguipped with doublé degrees
in hydraulic engineering and
business management,
appointments as deputy director
generaI of the ministry of economie affairs and secretary genera! for
the ministry of transport and Communications respectiveiy, Smits
promises to be a real asset to our organization.
Argentina extended its staff with
senior reiationship manager F&A
Fernando Aftalion, senior manager
APFT Aitor Ezcurra, and Alejandro Reca
as senior manager FAR,
responsible for Latin America.
Brazil Investment banking has
been strengthened with head of
sales Luiz Marcelo Alves de Moreas.
Chile has a new generaI manager,
Willem Wagner, who previously
headed Rabobank Curaqao.
Corporate banking has
a new colleague, senior account
manager Carlos Urzua.
Claudia Benavides is atso joining as
senior credit analyst.
Leonidas Montes left the bank
China Shanghai continues to
recruit, newest to the team is
deputy generat manager Tony Leigh
who will be in charge of the com
mercial banking activities. Deputy
generaI manager KM Lee will be in
charge of the operational
activities. New manager of F&A
is Bernadette Cenzon, and John Redick
has started setting up an APF
team.

Cura^ao Maus Barendrecht has been
appointed generaI manager.
Maus was previously country-
manager Italy.
Germany Jürgen Buchfink has been
appointed head of trade finance
structured trade finance in
Flamburg. Corporate Finance atso
has a new colleague in
Richard Gütermann as project
manager acquisition finance.
New to operations is head of
payment services Joachim Römer,
replacing Barbara Schreeb-Ziegler,
who left the bank.
Italy Adriaan van Ravenstein has been
appointed general manager.
Adriaan comes from Germany.
Netherlands Shafik Gabr has been
appointed global product
manager corporate finance.
Rachel Bosman has been appointed
assistant secretary of the
managing board. Within the
Netherlands branch Jaap Korf has
been appointed market core team
leader government within
corporate finance. Account
manager Arjan de Boer joins the
Rabobank International
