Ongoing growth in the network means interaction and
cooperation on a regional basis is increasingly needed to
ensure customer value is optimized. Latin America is no
exception, and in fact was one of the pioneers of regional
discussion and information exchange, as the third annual
meeting held at the end of February shows.

Frits Mönking says it proved
an extremely intense four-day
session. 'We not only had
region-related business to
discuss,' he says. 'A number of
presentations were scheduled
to keep us up to speed on
developments elsewhere in the
network. 'Among visitors to
conference were New York's
Bob Benoit and Reinier
Mesritz. 'They provided
presentations on how their
global management teams - on
administration and investment
banking, respectively - were
progressing. 'However, one of
the main priorities of these
meetings, and a permanent hot
item on the agenda, is the
management development
program the Latin American
region. Conceived as a pilot at
the Regional Managers
Conference one year ago by
Teun de Boon and Pieter van
Well, new is perhaps rather a bit
far-fetched for Walter van
Miegbem of Rabobank Antwerp.
A long-time treasury head there,

says, 'is to handle treasury

personnel are for our
operation. If we manage to
recruit good people, then we
have to be in a position to
offer them something
substantial and longer term.
That is why we see this
program as so vital, because
we can benefit from each
other's opportunities for career
development, both regional
and global. We have to get the
best out of those
opportunities.' By getting an
overview Mönking and his
colleagues from Chile, Brazil,
Argentina and Curagao believe
they can not only help to meet
each other's personnel needs,
but also add a developmental
aspect in enhancing the
region's management potential.
