What'S NewS Issue 2 February 1997
Next year, 1998, the bank will
mark a century of cooperative
banking. Reason enough for a
celebration, of course. But there
is growing sense within the
organization that the centenary
should be more than a party. 'A
number of work groups have
been established here in the
Netherlands to develop and
plan various activities through
which we will further distinguish
ourselves as a customer-
Brigitta van Kanten
oriented social responsible
bank,' says Brigitta van Kanten
of the centenary coordination
team. 'All are focused on the
future rather than being merely
a reflection of the past. At
present, we're working on a
concept for Rabobank
Internationals participation in
the centenary. The basic idea is
to involve both staff and clients
in our activities which will be
organized around themes such
as sustainable development.'
RI's centenary team consists of Roel
van Veggel and Vincent Pijpers
(marketing), Flip Goudsmit (Human
Resources), Bram Kruimel (NDS)
and Brigitta van Kanten. From now
on, we'll be giving you a regular
update on developments.

Erik Hommels - dealer of the year.
Well, not actually new. But Erik Hommels
has a new smile on his face following his
elevation to Reuters' foreign exchange
dealer of the year, 1996 in the Netherlands.
Tm thrilled and very surprised,' says
Hommels. 'It was the last thing I expected,
but half the dealing room seemed to know
about it.' Besides the trophy and a
certificate, Erik can celebrate his award with
a dinner at Reuters' expense. That's one
prize he won't be sharing with half the
dealing room...

Abbreviations and acronyms can
certainly make life easier.The
boredom factor that can creep
in ifyou haveto read eg.'block

times in a four-line text is deadly.
But acronyms also cause
problems.They make some of
our communication extra
complicated.and as this listing
shows, takes us into the crazy
realms of acronyms explained
by other acronyms.
BLOX block order exposure

Some are fun or humourous, like

unpronouncable, such as XD or
