Rabobank Hong Kong hosted a
special cliënt lunch where, bes-
ides the food, the main attrac-
tion was the head of the agri-
project finance team, Niek
Streefkerk. In total, 33 major
agri-clients from various seg-
ments attended to discuss on-
going growth in the sector and
prospects for the region.
approved Buyatti as a direct
borrower and did not require
Argentine bank guaranty. As a
result, we are able to save the
cliënt between 2 and 4 percent
in financing costs, so it's in-
teresting for them, but also re-
presents an excellent return on
solvency for us.'
The Latin/North America team
also had another reason for
celebration. They managed to
receive Eximbank approval
within three weeks of appli-
cation, which is a record time.
Two of the four international Rabo-
bankers who worked on the deal -
Barbara Hyland (New York) and
Hans Wortelboer (Buenos Aires).
The deal: medium-term
US Eximbank supporter trans-
action.
The cliënt: Oilseed crusher
Buyatti SAICA, Argentina.
The players: Rabobank Argen
tina and the trade finance team
of Rabobank North America.
According to New York's Ling
Tsou, the fact that the US bank
gave approval to support the
import of American-made cot-
ton ginning equipment by
Buyatti was 'due to the superior
marketing effort of Peter
Greenberg in Buenos Aires'.
Jhe equipment, manufactured
Jjy the Georgia-based Lummus
Corporation, will be financed
by Rabobank under Eximbank
medium-term insurance for a
period of five years with semi-
annual repayment of principal
and interest. Says Tsou: 'We're
really happy about this deal
because it is the first time a
medium-term Eximbank in-
sured transaction has been or-
iginated and closed by the bank
anywhere in the world. The
North America trade finance
team was able to submit a
thorough and well-written
credit analysis of the company
based on comprehensive infor-
mation supplied by our co-
workers in Buenos Aires.

■■i Rabobank Argentinië en
■■i Rabo New York hebben
met grote inspanning voor het
eerst en binnen recordtijd een
door Eximbank gedekte middel
lange financiering van USD 2,2
miljoen gearrangeerd. De finan
ciering is ten behoeve van
katoenkorrelmachines voor
Buyatti SAICA uit Argentinië.
Deze constructie is voor zowel
Buyatti als onze bank zeer
lucratief.
The transaction is worth USD
2.2 million and is part of a
major capital investment pro
gram by Buyatti valued at USD
22 million. So the international
team forecasts more business
to come. The deal also had
another positive spin-off.
'Lummus' CFO said they were
really impressed by Rabo-
bank's responsiveness and
team work,' Tsou adds, 'They
indicated they would like to
work with us in the future.'
