There wasn't a calculator
in sight as teams from Rabo
bank Nederland, Cariplo and
other banks from three Euro-
pean countries got together in
the Italian town of Alessio to
prove their skill in a very diffe
rent field.
The international football tour-
nament organized by allied
bank Cariplo was conceived as
a friendly meeting between a
number of banks from all over
Europe. The team from Utrecht
received its invitation to the
games through the represen-
tative office in Milan. Tt was a
lot of fun,' says Rabobank Italy
organizer Monica Toffanello,
'and I have to admit, the teams
were all pretty good.' Although
the tournament was won by the
Issue 12/Novem 16, 1992 band
host team Cariplo, with another
Italian bank taking second
place, and the British TSB in
third, Rabobank Nederland
came in a respectable fourth
and was also voted the most
disciplined team. T think the
results may have turned out
rather differently if we hadn't
had such bad weather,' says
Toffanello. 'There was one
game where it poured with rain
right up to the referee blowing
the final whistle. Then, of
course, the sun immediately
came out.' The matches may
have left players and specta
tors feeling rather damp, but
the atmosphere surrounding
the interbank tournament was
more than bright. Besides
meeting colleagues from other
banks, the Utrecht team also
visited the Milan office. Says
Toffanello: Tt really was an ideal
way of getting acquainted.'

A corner of Singapore now
definitely has a real flavour of
Holland following the opening
of a 'Dutch village' by Minister
of Information and Arts, and
Foreign Affairs, George Yeo on
October 9.
The village, which comprises
an exhibition of scale models
of typical Dutch houses and
arts and crafts, such as
wooden-shoe mak
ing and a display of
Delft Blue porce-
lain, is designed as
an attraction for lo-
cal and foreign
visitors. But, says

Division in San Francisco as

continue as Deputy General
Manager of the North American
operation.
At the Belgian branch, Frans
van Bijsterveld took over the
as a symbol of appreciation for
the cordial and close relation-
ship between the two commu-
nities'. Rabobank Singapore
was active in the realization of
the project and sponsored the
construction of the model
house where the Delft Blue is
on show. It was a fitting choice
as the original Delft designs
were inspired by oriental classi-
cal porcelain decoration that
came into vogue in the Nether-
lands in the 17th century fol
lowing early trading voyages to
the Far East.
