Around 15,000 branches in
Europe are ready to serve
Rabobank's customers. lts own
offices outside the Netherlands
are the outposts. In addition, it
cooperates with a number of
leading banks. Rabobank's

The Corporate Banking Divi
sion has been reorganized. The
account managers now operate
in eleven teams, all of which
concentrate on a separate in-
dustrial sector. If necessary,
new teams will be added in the
coming years.
Rabobank will shortly open
its own representative office in
the Argentine capital, Buenos
Aires. Argentina is one of
the most important grain and
meat-exporting countries in
the world. There is currently a
great need for export pre-
financing for these goods.
Up to now, the Argentine inter-
ests of Rabobank customers
have been looked after from
Uruguay by Gert-Jan Mulder,
who will shortly move to Buenos
Aires. A local presence makes
it much easier to follow the pro
duction and exportation of
grain and meat. The represen
tative office will continue to
operate in close cooperation
with Surinvest, the Uruguayan
bank in which the Rabobank
Group has a 21 percent share.
At the start of April Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands
opened the Floriade, the world's largest exhibition in the field
of horticulture. The opening was performed in a colourful man-
ner during a live TV broadcast. The number of people visiting
the event from many parts of the world has meanwhile ex-
ceeded all expectations. Rabobank, which is the main sponsor
together with its subsidiaries Interpolis and De Lage Landen,
among others, is organizing a large number of activities on the
exhibition site.
After prolonged negotia-
tions it has been decided to
set up a joint banking venture
in Shanghai, together with the
Agricultural Bank of China.
The International Finance Cor
poration, part of the World
Bank, will also participate in
this operation.
Economie activities in South-
East China are growing at an
exceptional rate and Shanghai
expects to become the finan-
cial centre of China again. From
the time when the representa
tive office was set up in Hong
Kong, the Rabobank Group
has followed developments in
China with close attention and
has built up many reiationships
there. The joint venture brings
Rabobank closer to the market
and can provide local financing
and services. From now on,
Rabobank's Dutch customers
can benefit by local knowledge
and guidance in China itself.
The management of the
International Division was
strengthened this spring. Cor
Broekhuyse (I) has been dep-
uty head since 1 March and
Arthur Arnold has held this po-
sition since 1 May.
Broekhuyse has been with the
Rabobank Group for twenty
years and until 1 March was
the deputy head of the Corpor
ate Banking Division. In addi
tion to supervising a number of
foreign offices, he is now en-
trusted in the International Divi
sion with the further develop-
ment of Rabobank as an inter
national agribusiness bank.
Arnold also supervises a num
ber of foreign offices, but is
mainly responsible for main-
taining mutual contacts be-
tween the International Divi
sion and the Corporate Finance
and Treasury Divisions. He
comes from the Dutch ABN
Bank.
The successful Floriade in
ternational horticultural exhibi
tion is the setting for a large
number of activities organized
by the main sponsor, Rabo
bank. For example, the bank
presented its Europe policy to
managers of local Rabobanks
at the exhibition. Page 6.
Rabobank will shortly open a
representative office in Mexico
City. The office will concentrate
on trade financing and providing
advice and guidance to existing
and potential customers in
Mexico. The possibilities in the
banking and agricultural fields
will also be investigated.
