The US banking world is in turmoil. Many banks are having problems. But Rabobank in New York is doing extremely well. In the space of ten years it has developed into the third largest agribusiness bank in the USA. Page 3. Rabobank and the Spanish Banco Popular work in tandem in a number of fields. They re- cently introduced a joint prod uct: a form of mortgage for Dutch Rabobank customers who want to buy a second home in Spain. De Lage Landen's new office in Eindhoven was opened at the end of February. The Belgian subsidiary did not intend to be left behind. At the end of April, the staff of the Brussels subsidiary moved into a brand-new building. /vJa'RE filoTJUSTA WV BANK- WB'KE A ë-AAANK! \RABoe>ANK HAS "AAA-RATINGy illll «t ■MMISig; The management of the International Division was strengthened in September 1990 with the arrivai of deputy general manager Wouter Kolff (right), followed in December by deputy general manager Willem Wagner (left). Together with general manager Rik van Slingelandt (centre) they form the management team of the International Division. Additions to the team were badly needed to cope with the rapid growth of the organization's international activities. This development will continue in the coming years. More and more Rabobank offices are being set up all over the world and the product range is undergoing further expansion. Rabobank Nederland has taken over all the shares of a smali Italian finance company. The new subsidiary, Rabofin Italia SpA, offers the Rabo- bank's representative office in Milan the possibility to extend its range of services. Among other things, Rabofin Italia will focus on financing in ternational products connected with the agribusiness on behalf of both Dutch clients and the customers of the foreign of fices. Rabofin Italia's present staff of four will be doubled this year. To achieve a further expansion of services in Italy, cooperation is still being sought with an Italian bank with a nationwide network of branches. After six months of struggling, lobbying and pushing, Rabo bank Duta has succeeded in obtaining two fully operational lines from Reuters. They now have direct dealing and in- formation sereens available. To prove the high spirit of Jakarta's staff, the Treasury team, consisting of manager Non Rawung and the dealers Halim and Setio, has meanwhile managed to generate sub- stantial profits by using the only means available, the often congested telephone lines. Rabobank has concluded an agreement to cooperate with Lloyds Bank. With its 2,200 domestic branches and a balance-sheet total of 57.5 billion, Lloyds is one of the four largest British banks. The cooperation with Lloyds Bank represents an addition to the activities of Rabobank's own branch, which is located in the City of London. Together with the office in Edinburgh, it is mainly concerned with supplying services to major companies. it is also active as a financier for international trad ing and as a player on the Lon don money and capital market. The alliance with Lloyds Bank is mainly aimed at providing bank ing support for trade between Britain and the Netherlands. European unification will become a fact on 1 January 1993. Rabobank aims to be present in every member state of the European Community before that time. So pos- sibilities were recently investi- gated for setting up an office in Greece. The conclusion is that Greece is confronted with economie problems to some extent, but nevertheless offers promising opportunities for the Rabobank Group. In particular, the bank's expertise in the agribusiness sector can be used to optimum effect in Greece. An extensive study is currently being carried out to determine in what way Rabobank can and aims to be present in Greece.
