In accordance with the advice of the Central Bank the interest rates for open savings were
generally increased from 2.25% to 2.40% for members and from 2.16% to 2.28% for non-mem-
bers. The interest rates for deposits which had previously been raised were again increased for
1950 viz. to 2.75% for annual deposits and 2.64% for deposits withdrawable at six month's notice.
The deposits withdrawable at six month's notice increased from fl. 0.7 to fl. 1.5 million, those
withdrawable at a year's notice from fl. 41.2 to fl. 46.2 million.
The trend of deposits and withdrawals on savings accounts was more striking than it has been
in recent years. In the first six months a continuous decline in the savings deposited; in the second
half of the year a steady rise in balances. This change resulted not from a rise in deposits which
amounted to fl. 118 and fl. 120 million for the first and the second half of the year respectively,
but from a decline in the amount of withdrawals which feil from fl. 136 million for the period ending
30th June to fl. 105 million in the July-December period.

CURRENT ACCOUNT BUSINESS
Current Account business by the affiliated agricultural Banks continues to grow steadily in
volume and importance. As last year various institutions again commenced making their payments
my means of current accounts with the agricultural banks. Greater use continues to be made of
authorizations for automatic transfers. The inclusion of the N.V. Gemeenschappelijk Bankkantoor,
established at The Hague, which body we created some years ago jointly with our associated bank
at Utrecht, has proved to be of increasing importance for the settlement of current payment trans-
actions for agriculture and horticulture through the mediation of the agricultural banks.
